Conservation Areas

Conservation areas are parts of town with characteristics of particular heritage value. They usually contain a range of buildings of architectural merit but it is the sum total of all the street scenes, buildings, street furniture, greenery and character which counts. Any planned development within a conservation area will be scrutinised with extra care.

Within Reading there are four such areas close to the centre of town and to the Potts memorial:-

Market Place / London Road

St Mary Butts / Castle Street

The Reading Abbey Quarter

Castle Hill
